I'm going to a small lake in Tyler, Tx called Brooks Lake. What baits would be best to use at this time of year?

No one can state that you use this or that before you arrive on scene and evaluate current conditions. The only thing you can do is generalize about what might work during a particular season of the year. 

I didn't know there were smallmouth bass in Texas. 

Welcome to the forum!  If you use the search feature, you can likely find some quality information from other folks that fish out your way.

 

I don't fish Texas and I'm not very familiar with many systems down your way with smallmouth.  That said, I also have no idea what the conditions are, or where they would be in their seasonal cycle.  I could make general suggestions, but knowing nothing else, they'd likely hurt more than help.
