Breech stop & turn

Someone here asked me quite awhile back about a breech stop and turn that I had mentioned in a thread.  The boat is a Champion 184DC like mine in my avatar.  I've done this manuever a couple times in my old 168 Champion, once in an emergency and the other just to do it again for grins.  It's a pretty extreme manuever and I don't recommend anyone attempt this at the speeds shown in the video or without instruction from someone who knows how to do it. Enjoy.

The video forgot to mention to pack a clean pair of shorts should you ever have to do this. ;)

That was one of the biggest reasons I bought my champion.  Who said boats don't have brakes!   ;)  Whatever isn't tied down, better float!!!!  Been there once.

All you have to do is chop the power without triming down first on my boat with it stretched out like that and it does that automatically, it just goes right instead of left and a whole lot sharper, don't have to worry about turning the wheel. Alli guys call it the bat turn. After a few of them, it's almost fun but still not something I've tried just for the thrill.

One thing though, for most, you don't have to worry about doing that. That boats ways flying the hull a lot more so than most average boats could ever hope to. THe boat has to be fully on the pad and flying similar that to realy make it work or do a bat turn on it's own if you chop the power too quick.

Now, if you have yours stretched out and if feels like it mostly floating on air and just feeling the back of the boat kinda skipping along on the chop, then all you have to do is quickly let off the gas, or turn the switch off and hang on.

The description in the video where it states it could save you from a collision is exactly what happened to me. I remember those video's being run at the boat shows but never bothered to try the manuveur. Lo and behold one day a ski boat shot out in front of me from a cove where the view of the entrance of the cove was blocked by trees.  Instinctively I trimmed the nose down, shut down and threw the thing into a hard right....... well, it felt like my brain was going to come out my left ear and I nearly got thrown onto the passenger.   ;D  If you're going to attempt this manuever, and I don't suggest it in anything other than a Champion because I can't promise these results,  turn hard left.

BTW,  my passenger nearly soiled himself when I did this.  The second time I did it, on purpose, I did it alone.  ;D

Huh been doing that for years & now it's got a name  :-?

Do it with someone on skis or a hydra slide but after the turn nail the throttle again and watch them go skipping across the water.

Yep, that used to be part of the Champ demo ride. The rep that took me out back in '89 ran through the "normal" stuff, then told me where to grab and said "hold on". That 184 from Mt. Home was one of the best boats I've owned.
