PACA Craw question

Featured Replies

I was fishing in a local farm pond this afternoon and I really whooped up with a PACA craw but after a fish or two I seemed to always lose one of the arms.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I must have gone through 8 different lures in an hour with probably around 18 fish caught.  I eventually switched to a trick worm so I could save my stash of Craws.

I don't fish a paca craw, but I've had that happen innumerable times with a zoom big critter craw.

Maybe I'm just a miser, but I continue to fish the craw with one claw, and have actually caught

some of my best fish (bass & pickerel) with a one-clawed critter craw ;)

That doesn't tell me that one-claw is better than two, but mitigates the importance of two claws.

Yeah it happens to me.  I fish em on jigs though.  Its one of the consequences for having such good action on the claws.

I tried that a few times with no success; but after I lost the leg of one I pulled it off the hook and threw it in and I saw something blow up on it when it hit the water.  I re-rigged with a fat ika and pitched to the same spot and caught a nice 2 pounder and it had part of the paca craw sticking out of its throat.

Hmm, I havn't had that problem. Maybe it because I've only been catching dinks and 1 pounder with it. ;D.

what size paca do you guys use, and what color is the most effective in general? I was going to order some, but I'm color blind so I can't for the life of me see the difference in 9 or 10 of the different colors pictured.. I'm just going to order one pack for now so what would be the "Best chance" color/size would be great..

thanks  ;)

My favorite is alabama craw

they get torn off all the time. at $2 a pack, i just buy plenty. But you could always save the ones with a torn off claw, and when you have some down time at home, use a lighter to weld arms back off of them you have 10 with one arm, make 5 with both ;)

Green pumpkin, Chartreuse pepper, and Junebug are my favorite. I like the baby paca craws the best.

+1.

If you are getting 2 fish per craw, I think that is acceptable.  That's only like .25 cents a bass...I'll pay that all day long!

I don't fish Paca Craws, but I do fish Yum Craw Papi baits. They look alot alike I can tell but how close are they in action and presentation from any of you that have fished both??

BTW I like green pumpkin and junebug of the Craw Papi's

Caught my first small mouth on the green pumpkin. :)

I was Carolina riggin-Aug last year at Barkely right by those white pole that stick out that say "fish"

He hit it, gottem to the boat and he jumped out that water I bet 4 foot(he was at chest level when I was standing) happen so fast I forgot to net him.

in he went and BOOM! ;) up he came again, netted that time, the wild thing was as I grabbed him the only thing hooked was the string around his gill  :D
