Loomis GLX MBR 842C

Featured Replies

Would this be a good Topwater rod for throwing Sammys, Gunfish, etc? I would use it for other techniques as well.

Yes, and also jerkbaits, 4" Senko, wacky rigs, Ned rigs, etc. Incredibly versatile rods.

You will be a little limited on the weight of top waters, but will work.

On a side note, if you are looking for technique specific rods, you can get 2 E6x.

I just don't see the need for a great top water, but do see the need for jig/worm

Mine is saddled up with a Core 50Mg7. This has been my favorite set-up for several years.

Although there are many techniques that this rod will excel at, mine is dedicated to swim

jigs, Sworming Hornet and medium sized swimbaits (Rage Swimmer).

Addressing the OP's original question, yes you can throw a Sammy, Gunfish or any other

medium-heavy lure.  However, the tip is soft and more suited for "moving baits". A better

"all-around" rod is the MBR 844C.
