Anyone fished at the silver lake regional park in prince William county?

Featured Replies

Buddy and I were thinkin about going there, but I have never been there and don't know anyone that has, so if anyone has would be awesome to know is it worth going for big bass?

I've only caught a few small ones there in about 5 trips over the past 3 years.  Did see a guy catch a decent 2 pounder one of those times.  Also, watch out for gnats.  I'm pretty used to bugs, but there seems to be this large and hungry resident swarm that is ALWAYS present down by the last picnic table.  Bring bug spray.  Easy place to fish, never seen it crowded.

fish silver many times, caught a few nice size bass, but nothing to brag about. they did redo the dam area so water level was low over the winter months. only time i went this year was early may for crappies, no luck. small lake very little fish. carps and catfish will be around. deepest part of the lake is in the middle near the dam area.

I fish Silver Lake all the time. You won't catch anything to brag about, but there are bass. I haven't tried cat fishing yet. Been going for about three years now. You can generally catch one or two any given day, and I've rounded up 6 on one trip. No boats with motors. Kayak fishing is where it's at on this body of water. The opposite shore line from the campgrounds is the best for shore fishing. I've always had the best luck with black jigs and dark trailer. Bass range all around 10-12 inches, 1lbs to 1 1/2lbs, but they put up a good little fight.

Its perfect if you're getting that itch and need the fix, and don't have time to get the boat out on the river, lake Anna, or travel. Highly suggest fishing it from a sit on top fishing kayak.

Generally what is said above. We still go because it is a nice small quiet lake nearby. Creel limit says keep nothing over 12”, probably to help with quality.  Great fun using flyrod, or small spinnerbaits or worms and jigs. Light tackle.  Low stress.

Crappie are small too. When you find them they’re in a bunch.  Even small spinners will entice them.  Catfish?  Yes.  Seen up to few pounds but we kept a couple only, pan-size just once using chicken livers (what else?).
