Minn Kota ultrex problem

Featured Replies

Bought the ultrex a couple months ago and have absolutely loved it, but today as I was using it on the river it stopped turning to the left with the pedal.  It will still turn right but the pedal will not move trying to turn it left.  When put on spot lock that works fine and the pedal moves with it when it makes it turn left.  It's electrical somewhere not initiating the power steer to the left.   Anyone had this happen and if so what did you do?  Gonna take the plate off tommorrow on bottom of the pedal and take a look.  Otherwise gonna contact minn Kota Monday.   Thanks

I'd contact Minn Kota first before doing too much trying to fix it yourself. You run the risk of doing something to void your warranty and then you're really out of luck.

Although the Ultrex is cable steer, the cables don't physically turn the shaft of the motor like they do on a Fortrex. The cables pull on solenoids that actuate a motor that turns the shaft of the motor. Since the shaft of the motor turns normally when on Spot Lock, it seems likely that you have a problem with a solenoid.

Update:

Actually found a minn Kota service tech close to home and took it there. It appears there's a sensor in the foot pedal messed up.  Minn Kota told him for the first year of this model if there a problem like that the whole Moter is replaced.  So got a new ultrex installed yesterday!
