Choice of three reels

Featured Replies

I am replacing a reel I have been using for the past 35 years. For the last 15 I've mostly been fishing with fly gear but I have come across a pond that is so heavily covered in hydrilla that fly gear is mostly useless. The pond is a true honeyhole where we  usually catch two to three bass over 8lbs per  outing. Between these three bait cast reels which would you choose? And why?

Abu Garcia Revo S

Lewes Speed Spool LFS

Bass Pro Pro Qualifier 2

I can get the PQ2 for 25% less than the Revo or Speed Spool.

Last 8+ out of the pond.

They're all on the same platform and built in the same factory. If the PQ has the features you like and is most economical.....

I didn't know that...

Not mentioned, but...

Shimano Caenan 150

Daiwa Fuego

Own a Caenan, and it is a great reel, one of my favorites. If you're not interested in these my vote goes to the LFS. I have held one and it was pretty sweet, however I like my caenan more.

Oh come on . Hook one on a fly rod and video tape it .

Would love to...but even the two and three pounders break me off in the weeds on the long rod

I have to suggest a reel that I have come to love. Take a serious look at a Daiwa Tatula CT.  I fish 7 Daiwa Tatula, Tatula CT and Tatula Type Rs.  The CT is probably a good all around choice. It should run you around $100 to $130 depending where you order it from. For me i love them, they are easy to fish with and are super reliable.

In that price range I'd suggest looking at the Daiwa Tatula CT.  The PQ isn't a bad reel, but in my hands the Tatula CT is the better reel. YMMV

I'd take a tatula ct over all of those reels.
