Cranking blank

Featured Replies

I've taken a break from rod building this last year or so but have been itching to get back to it and have some time now to do so. I really need a cranking rod I have one I use now but it's not designed for cranks and I feel is seriously lacking when it comes to the bigger deeper cranks.

Ive built on rod geeks and MHX in the past but am looking at a few others for a good cranking build.

First is the revelation REVCB70MH-SB and REVCB76MH-SB

second is the batson E-glass cranking blank either the GCB70MH or the GCB710MH

third rd is the rod geeks S glass line SG79MHM

any one with experience in any of them mentioned or any others.

While I admit there are many who disagree with me, I am not a fan of glass.  Graphite can do anything that glass can do and probably do it with a lighter blank.  Graphite is more sensitive, most likely lighter, and may be more tolerant of abuse than some of the glass blanks. I have no experience with the ones you suggest.  Take a look at the Amtak Bushido blanks.  They are very high quality, sensitive, blanks at a good price.

I have been looking at the X-13 blank from phoenix for the same thing.  I currently have a dobyns 764RM rod and its not heavy enough for dd-22 and larger baits.  The x-10 got rave reviews on TT and its a blend of glass and carbon.

I've used some Rodgeeks glass/ carbon composite blanks that are nice. GOOD glass blanks are the best of both worlds. The old Lamiglass SR705 for example. I like mod fast carbon blanks for shallow cranks and popping off weeds

I like the geek blanks because of all the color options

I built a cranking. Stick with a MHX-905 blank, white, that works great for mid-deep cranks. It is a slightly heavier (power ) blank than most MH blanks and I don't do much in the way of deep cranking anymore. They also make a 7'6" HM, I believe it's the 967 or 965.

The GCB’s are the classic Glass Crankbait rod, there’s still a lot of believers in this blank. It’s very affordable and gives you the action that you like.

The REVELATION Crankbait blanks, formerly RX7, are quite popular as well with the graphite lovers out there.

Neither of the above will really handle the largest crankbaits, like 10XD, as well as most would like. For that we have The Judge Crankbait rod blank series which is a combination of graphite and glass tip (best of both worlds) – these are top of the line. As well as the new REVELATION Telescopic blanks that give you longer length (they should be available in mid-August), there’s also a great Swimbait rod blank in there.

Thanks! I don't do any serious deep cranking in fact a barely crank at all but I need to start.

Think I found the one I'm gonna order the judge JDGCB70MH-CG seems everywhere has it listed as a live bait blank though.

There's a Judge Crankbait series and a separate Live Bait series - definitely different from one another.

If they don't have the CB (Crankbait) series listed, just give them a call and anyone of our dealers will special order it for you.

The model number is the cranking one just under live bait. I've got the blank and grip narrowed down at least for the build. I love the alps textouch that's on the rod I recieved from Gary in the warrior project build. That rod he built for me is by far my favorite.
