Making my own circle hooks?

Featured Replies

I like to fish for bullhead catfish, but I gut hook alot of them. I have tried 1/0 circle hooks, but I can't seem to hook the fish (I think the hook is too big). So I was wondering if I could take a size 2 or a size 4 bait holder hook and bend it into a circle hook. The bullheads aren't that big, maybe a half pound at best.

Are you using a proper set for the circle hook? You just need to reel and keep tension and the hook should set itself perfectly in the corner of the mouth. Trying to set the hook will result in lost fish using circle hooks

how are you going to bend the hook into the proper shape and not weaken it?

I was going to put it into my fly tying vise and bend it with a pair of pliers.

Bullheads are going to swallow it no matter what . Barbless is the way to go .

Are u eating them...if so just use a treble and make your own snell and get it hooks back when u clean them.  Is a super duty snap and u can eliminate retiring every time u catch one
