It seems that every time I get a birds nest my line mysteriously gets cut.  Originally, I spooled up with 10# Suffix Elite Mono and it happened 2 or 3 times. The last time I lost a nice jerkbait.  So I figured the line was crap so I re-spooled with 8# Big Game and low and behold, the same thing happened.  The line was just severed so I'm wondering if there's something funny going on.  I pulled the spool and I couldn't find any sharp edges either..

 

Thoughts?  I love this little reel but I can't live with this.

Could it perhaps be a bad guide on the rod? Maybe fraying the line?

If the line gets kinked bad enough when the reel birdnests, it can break on a successive cast.  Or already be broken without noticing it.  Seems odd that it could happen as often as it is for you.  I've only had it happen once while learning.  Made a cast only to find that the line had broken down in the spool.

 

Besides the spool, also check the inside of the line guide for a sharp edge.  Or a sharp edge any place on the reel where line might drag across it when the reel birdnests.

 

Other than that I've no idea what could be causing the line to shear.  Never heard of it happening before...not that it couldn't....but haven't read of it.

How bad are the birds nests? The more severe the nest, the greater the potential for the line to get damaged, not only from the nest but also the undoing of the nest from angler yanking of the line trying to undo it. 

 

The next time you made a severe one, be on the lookout for parts of the line that are kinked. Every one of those is a possible place for the line to break anytime afterward.  Btw, this type of line can happen with any line if the damage is great enough. 

 

As already mentioned, it won't hurt to see if one of the guides could be the culprit 

The only part of the reel that your line would have contact with is the line guide. Take a q-tip and check it and the guides in your rod.

Clearly you don't know how to properly backlash a reel.   

 

Even though the line can touch elsewhere (from a bad backlash), there shouldn't be enough pressure to cut the line.

That's my thought as well.  And my backlashs are not that bad and rather than pull on the line, I work it out on the spool and then pull it through.  The Suffix was 10# mono which is plenty tough. I'm thinking it may be a guide. Had that happen before on a spinnerbait rod.  Lost 2 spinnerbaits before I clued in..lol

It's definitely just your line braking itself somewhere in your spool you have little Loops of Line crossing other line and it creates friction and the force that's created when you're blind backs pools and stops against itself is breaking your line deep in your school. This usually happens when people have loops in their spool that they don't know about and they keep casting and it eventually breaks.

Well the rod guides all passed the q-tip test so it must me the reel/line.

This is the case imo.

 By chance , do you smoke? I know a guy that burned  the line whole getting the backlash out

I also have an sv105 that I fish with light 6-10lb line.  I have found broken line when working out a backlash before.  I agree that it is from loops that get in the line from previous casts.  I had this happen a lot when I was fishing smaller rivers and trying to pitch light plastics into still pockets behind log jams.  I would get a lot of loose line and if I wasn't on top of pulling them out I would end up with a broken line the first time I had a real backlash.
