Seating Choice for Front of Boat

Featured Replies

Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and have a question. I bought a used Triton Tr186DC a couple of weeks ago and am just getting used to it. It came with a front bike seat & pro-pole. I am not a small guy (6'2" 280 lbs) but I find that the pro pole is a bit too tall for me. It is a Swivel-Eze pole that extends 24"-30". The seat has a concave back I'm told allows you to raise the seat and turn it around then put the small of your back in this concave area. I asked about this when I bought the boat (Anglers Choice Martinsville, VA) and the guy there said that it looked about right. I'm not sure I wanna stand or lean while fishing. I'm just trying to get a feel for what everyone uses. Thanks.

Pro pole and bike seat.  Only way to go in my opinion.  The sit down seat takes up too much space.

I use a "bike seat" after years of using a standard seat on the front and I'll never go back. I absolutely love being able to see better over the front of the boat while driving and I like to stand while fishing so the bike seat is the only way to go. Mine is set up to raise high enough to lean against or low enough to sit on. Once you get used to it you'll love it.

Thanks guys. The first couple of times I took the boat out not being too sure-footed around the thing yet,  I used the sit-down seat. The trolling motor pedal was too close and it wasn't all that comfortable. I moved the pedal a bit and tried again, not bad. The last couple of times I've been out, I used the pro-pole. It does seem to be getting more comfortable but it seems a bit tall. I can't really sit down so I think I'll get the next size down so I can take some of the weight off my feet occasionally. Again thanks for the replies.

Also I think I'll see about one of the trolling motor foot controller trays to further ease the load on my back.

When I got my first boat(used) it had 2 seats for the front. The butt seat was installed so I went fishing with the butt seat but as soon as I got home I switched seats. The next morning I went with the full seat in place. When I got back this time I switched back to the butt seat and have never looked back.

I think your current front seat is the best available. You will find that you stand most of the time with only a sit down to rest the legs a bit. I've never checked but I would guess I stand and lean against the front seat over 70% of the time.

Does anyone recommend an aftermaket seat?  I see the ones they sell at BassPro and Cabelas, but the reviews on those are not too good.  I hate having a full seat in the front for the same reasons.  Im a big guy and the seat is too low and uncomfortable to fish with all day long. I would rather lean.

Who makes a good one?  And what pole do you reccomend?

Thanks
