Do any Minn Kota Mounts work with the existing deck holes for the Ulterra?

I'm asking because there was a bit of confusion. I bought a MKA-21 because I had to bring my new 2017 Ulterra in for service and decided that the quick mount was the best way to go in case I had to take the TM off again (never had to do it in 7 years with my Terrova so I figured I didn't need one) after this. I actually went to 2 dealers and they both said the same thing, the holes line right up.

......well, that is correct, the holes of the top bracket that mount to the TM line up perfectly, but the holes for the deck mount need to be re-drilled because the mount is a tiny rectangle vs. the larger footprint of the original trolling motor.

I bought the MKA-21 because I thought the deck mounting holes and the TM mounting holes all lined up thus I wouldn't need to drill any more holes into my boat at all.

I thought I'd mount the quick release base to the deck with the existing Ulterra/Terrova holes and the TM base to the TM with the existing holes. Not the case.

If I wanted to use the MKA-21 I'd have to screw in 4 new holes and 2 of them would be so far forward on my boat they'd come out the front of the bow. I also have like 10 holes on a small deck and don't want to weaken the fiberglass anymore.

I'm wondering if the MKA-47 and MKA-32 would work without having to drill new holes in my boat or TM. Does anyone know if these other mounts or ones that I didn't list will work with my Ulterra and not necessitate any drilling whatsoever?

That's a good question... They mounted mine with the new MKA-51 quick release bracket, so it was set-up from the get-go... I wouldn't go drilling holes in your bow or anything crazy like that, just to have a quick release bracket. I'm surprised a service center can't figure that out for you, as they rig stuff all the time... Call Minn Kota and they'll have an answer for you; their customer service is top-notch. I hope you're enjoying the Ulterra, I know I am...

I'd go to the Minn Kota website and see if I could download the mounting instructions, including a template for drilling holes.

I called them and they said the MKA-32 would meet my needs in needing no drilling. So I ordered one and it just got here.

We'll see. Hopefully they are right. The guy said it comes with the all the right bolts and screws but I read the instructions and it said use the original screws. Well, a few of those got ruined on the removal of the TM. I hope he's right though and it came with all the right bolts.

I don't recall if that is correct, but I think so...I've been using the same bolts for the last three boats...I can't recall where they came from.

THe instructions says it come with the screws/bolts: https://www.minnkotamotors.com/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=3569

Thanks.

My instructions said to use the original bolts from the Ulterra. Problem is that they are ruined and the bolts in the package are too short.

So I'll have to buy some longer stainless steel bolts today.

Update:

The Minn Kota MKA-32 Quick Release Mount does fit without having to drill anymore holes in the boat deck or anything else.

I still have the original bolts from my first Terrova.

They are almost always too short. ;)

So you just buy your own stainless steel bolts?

I sure do...a quick measurement (or estimate + fudge factor if I can't get a tape on it) and and a run to the hardware store and we're ready to go.
