Rainshadow Swimbait/Umbrella Rig Build

Featured Replies

Ive been getting into swim baits and umbrella rigs lately so I thought it was time for a rod dedicated to it, I've been using a flipping stick and it just wears ya down.  I chose a Rainshadow Revelation 7'10" MH Swimbait blank, Forecast 14" carbon tex handle, Alps MVT real seat with carbon fiber hood, Alps Medium MXN Titanium guides.  I am super happy with this rod and have caught a few decent fish since the build.  I didn't get into any fancy wraps just a nice performing rod.

Thanks I love the grip its super sensitive and has good grip.  I run the same thing on my jig rods with split grips and I feel like I can feel everything

Are you mostly throwing jointed swim baits with trebles or do you throw big jig hooked ones like hudds. I'm gonna build a swim bait rod over the winter I've got a combination of s wavers, rats, 6 and 8" hudds, bull shads. I've got the baits but no rod to really throw them effectively

i have that same blank , ISWB 945 , they rate the rod as having a fast action but is really a moderate action . for hudds you might want a more faster action with a little more backbone . it can throw a 8'' hudd but the rod flexes almost to the handle . great for treble hook baits but i prefer a stiffer rod for jig hook baits . i now have that rod designated for catfish . everybody has their own take on what works for them , me i prefer a more powerful rod . by the way , that rod throws 10XD's pretty well , so you can say it is like a big crankbait rod .

a good blank that will throw the baits your talking about is the Phenix USB800H , very popular for a custom build for swimbaits ...

I haven't thrown any hudds on it yet but I've been super happy with it on every bait I've thrown.
