Is there any way to fix leaks around rivets in an aluminum boat??

i drilled 3 holes in the bottom of mine installing a new bilge pump.  i just used a clear marine silicon and it seems to be working and it is not leaking.  i will know for sure by the end of the day, today it goes in the water for the first time since i got it.

i was reading where you can solder the holes or something with that plumbing solder.  i guess you cut it to fit, stick in the hole and solder it.

If you can reach the rivit from the inside and out you can repound them to fix the seal problems.  You may need a friend to hold theinside while you hammer the outside.  You may be able to google search rivits to find out if you need a special tool for the job.

JB Weld is all you need.  A friend of mine kept a Lowe jon dry for 25 years with that stuff. ;D

Aluminum and fiberglass flex at different rates.  What I have heard is the best stuff is Gluv-it.  You coat the inside with it, and it will seal all leaks, and prevent many leaks from starting.

Now that's funny stuff right there  

If your aluminum is flexing enough to crack fiberglass resin you got more problems than leaky rivets.

If you're going to re-set the rivets you will need a rivet set that fits the head of the rivets along with a bucking bar, rivets are not set with a hammer.

Thanks Katt i could not come up with the name of the tools.  Resetting them is probably the best option.
