Fishing flukes

Featured Replies

Hey all, who here uses ZOOM Flukes? If so what are your favorite colors? and how do you retrieve them (weights, no weights, etc.)?

I use them weightless and cast them out, let them fall for about 10-15 seconds and then begin a steady retrieve with twitches. Or for shallow water as soon as they hit the water, I begin the retrieve and twitch and the fluke creates surface disruption which I know can be deadly.

Just want to see what you all do with them.

God bless  8-)

That'll work. Occasionally On silty or sandy flats I will put it on a Shakey or standup jig head and pick it up and drop it. Just enough to get it off the bottom a few inches and land back on the bottom like a shad picking bugs outa the bottom.

I pitch them wieghtless up inside heavy fallen trees ,then just tip it and let it stay motionless and tip it again, lot of fun pulling bass out of those trees.

I'll use it weightless or t-rigged depending on the depth I find them at and the cover on the water. Weightless for surface (down to 2' deep) or heavy weeds and t-rigged for the deeper fish (weight depends on depth, but usually no more than 1/4 oz).

Around here I usually use the pearl white.

I LOVE them flukes. I often will have it rigged texas with no weight, or texas with 2 split shots about a foot up the line. I usually use the Arkansas Shiner color. I will let it sink to the bottom then give it 3 or 4 quik twitches or jerks, then let it sink again. I have also had success by casting it out, then retreive it by reeling as fast as i can, giving it little jerks. The nose of the bait will pop out of the water every time you jerk it, making it look like a fleeing baitfish.

I love fishing fluke use them often as a search bait my favorite colors are in the white and silver flake and I use them pretty much the same as the rest of the others weightless texas rigged and let them drop to diffrent depths in the water column and then jerk and twitch them back. The other way I like to use them is with a vertical drop hook tossing it into holes in the weeds and letting it drop.

Flukes are very versatile.

I have been fishing them for years and always have had good luck with them.  Arkansas shiner seems to be the best color for me.

My current method is to use some storm suspend strips and wrap them around the hook shank.  This adds a little weight but maintains the horizontal presentation.  it's been working, but a while ago I saw an informaiton for the banjo minnow, and so started nose hooking the fluks with circle or octopus hooks, and that worked well also.

What to have some fun?   Wacky rig em.  Yup.......trust uncle avid on this one boys and girls.
