Issue with 2016 Antares DC - thoughts?

Featured Replies

Hi,

during the last couple of fishing trips a issue with my Antares becomes more obvious. I am not sure how to best describe it (English is not my native language), so here is my best attempt.

After a cast when I am engaging the handle to retrieve the line, the 'bail' snaps in to prevent the spool from rotating back. Now the handle and the spool should not be able to be turned back.

Though this is happening with my reel. Every now and then I can rotate the handle back a bit or almost a quarter rotation.

Not sure what to do...

My last option would it be to send the reel to JapanLureShope where I bought the reel.

Anyone experienced this before or with any other reel.

Thanks for your input!

Not sure what you mean by a bail as that is not something found on a casting reel. It may be something to do with the levelwind.

You should send the reel to a tech familiar with that model. They can get it fixed up right for you.

Sounds like anti reverse isn't functioning properly to me.

Send it back to JLS. They're nice to deal with. The clutch doesn't seem to be engaging the spool.

The "bail" equivalent is probably the thumb bar. I would be inclined to think something with the anti reverse is off too. Did you recently take it apart?

No, I did not. The weird thing is though that this issue is sometimes completely absent (for example when I have the reel just in my hand and then try to reproduce it).

Then it's a mystery indeed! Something that high on the list of killer, cool, beyond-awesome casting reels should not have an issue like that. I hope you get it resolved.

I'm going to echo the above statements that something is awry in your anti-reverse. It's an easy fix if you wanted to replace it yourself, but if it's a relatively new purchase JLS should just take care of you for it. Most Shimano dealers seem to be very accommodating to folks with reel issues.

Sent it to JLS. Lets see how long it will take... ;)
