What can anyone tell me about this reel in picture. 

A solid , well built reel. The Super Tune designation is a little misleading in that it uses a full floating spool design eliminating the friction points polished in traditional "super Tuning". Did you have specific questions?

Looks like a Daiwa Advantage 153 or possibly 150.  I have both and can't tell the difference unless I look at the side plate.  They are great work horse reels, although a little on the heavy side by today's standards.  Good Frog and SwimBait reel.

 I added CarbonTex drag washers to two of mine (I have three) and they double for striper and pike fishing.

Well I’m thinking about buying the reel pictured. Owner said he bought in 2014, a friend said it was an alphas. However I’m rather new, 2nd season bass fishing. More finesse reel or could I bomb chatter and spinnerbaits??

That was a great review, next question. Is it worth me paying $70 for?? Made in 2004 era, I cannot see the value holding so much. You tell me though. 

Great reel. Just heavy. If that doesn't matter then I think $70 is fair as long as there are no internal issues.

It's not an Alphas at all.  The Advantage frame/design was also used on the Tierra and Cabelas's Prodigy (the greyish green one).  They are really nice and very smooth reels.  Drag could use a little Carbontex upgrade, but that's about it.  I found that they palmed funny for me (wide) and I have huge hands.  $70 is in line with what they are going for.

I fished a Curado E or D series and loved that reel, it was big green and smooth. So it seems comparable, but I’ll hold judgement till later today. 

 

How hard are is the carbontex upgrade? Pricey or moderate? 

Carbontex upgrades cost me $8 when someone else does it for me...along with other work.  Basically almost every reel I send for cleaning or upgrading gets a Carbontex drag installed while the other work is being done.

I have the older gray colored Prodigy that was based on these reels.  It is an exceptionally nice reel for the money, IMO.  Feels very solid.  Took to upgrading very well according to the guy that did the work for me.

I believe only the prodigy and the hsta had the swept handle. The hst had the fuego/tdz styled straight   handle

I bought the reel "htsl" as mine are lefties when they were on closeout and they take a beating and just keep rolling.  They will bomb a frog to the next zip code and has all the drag I ever needed for slop fishing.  I recommend this reel as a first baitcaster every time that post comes up.  The cast control is easy to dial in and adjust on the fly.  Hard to beat for the price imo.

It’s this reel or another Tatula SV in 7:3. A lot will depend on how the reel palms in my hand. I’ve fallen in love with the Tatula SV. 

Get the Tat SV. Don't look back

The HSTA is one of the best they’ve ever built. The Tatula is a better caster but the HSTA is the better choice for true HD use. 

I ended up passing on the reel, not sure what I’m going to do. It palms fine in my hand and was smooth all the way around. But I appreciate all the insight on the reel. No need for a heavy duty reel.
