River Bass on clay banks

Featured Replies

Learning to use topwaters on the first drop this fall on nothing looking clay banks without visible structure. But that bite starts dying once the sun comes up.  wondering what square bill or other lure would be more efficient once the sun comes up. I would think it needs to be a lure that stays above their head and will get a reaction bite. Clear but stained water. I am catching quality but not quantity.( 5 to 6 bites) But would like to catch those same kinds of fish later in the day. Since these banks look like nothing the bass are hanging just off the first drop

I've caught fish in the same places early. And had the same results as you with the bite dying off mid morning. I think its because they aren't staying put.  Probably into some cover close by. This has been my experience anyway.

Fishing the first breakline/drop  makes sense if there is one . I always had a hard time finding them even with electronics . I usually  look elsewhere  then go back in the evening .
