Is the DC Antares better than the DC Exsence

Featured Replies

for light lures? 1/4 ounce.

16 Antares and 17 Exsence.

Or would it be neck and neck? I've read somewhere that the 17 Exsence is the saltwater version of the DC Antares, but the Antares seems to still be the more pricey one of the two, even though it's an older reel.

The more expensive one is always the best one. :D jk I have no idea. But either one is a bad a** reel. I wouldn't mind being in you're predicament rite now having to choose between the two, life is so tuff sometimes.

I was looking at the Metanium DC, but a couple reviews suggested it's not a long distance caster like these two, so I may just wind up buying a Antares or Expensive.

If it comes down to it, I may just flip a coin and let that decide...  Ha ha ha.

Hmm i disagree. My Met DC cast pretty darn far, especially with the hedgehog air bearings.

I have a 2016 Antaress DC. Great reel! Casts a mile! A bit heavy but that is to be expected. THe Antares has also more line capacity than the Exsence!

If you only fish fresh water, get the Antares, no doubt!

Is it good with 1/4 oz lures?

You can throw these lures with the right rod and line, but I think the reel shines at 3/8 - 1oz lures. I use it for lures that I need to bomb out there (mostly lipless cranks and smaller paddle tail swimbaits).

Thanks for the assistance. Next step is to buy some more 3/8 lures, lol.

I have a couple of those reels & a few Calais DC reels. Lure weight will depend upon the line weight & rod you are using & how you set up your reel.  I have used 3/16th oz. spinnerbaits with it but you have be careful in the wind & the distance is not as good. It's like Big Turtle said it's not the reel for those light baits. Now I do use 1/4  baits with it but do not use a overhand cast & don't cast directly into the wind. I have the Scorpion DC Which would a better choice if you you use those lighter baits most of the time plus they cost a lot less.

Burro I can not answer your question for I do not own a Exsence DC. But it is hard to beat The Antares DC

I agree from what I've read.

Amazon also has the older 12 version of the Exsence DC, but I'm predicting there's surely going to be a noticeable difference in casting distance. I can't imagine a real with that much age on it equaling the Antares.
