How good does the medium Shimano Expride B casts 5/8 oz lures?
EXC610MB 6'10" Medium Moderate Fast 8-16lb 1/4-3/4oz 9+Tip 15" Cast E It's pretty close to its limit of 3/4oz. Is that the best Expride for casting topwater lures weighing 1/2 - 5/8 oz? https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano_Expride_B_Casting_Rods/descpage-XPB.html

Anyone know what frog this is? I'm thinking it's a Japanese lure.
Do you know if the frog in the video is an older design, or just looks like it? The one in the video looks like it has 3 strings for legs, but the one I find here has many strings for 3 legs. I'm wondering if the frog in the video is just wet, and that makes it looks like it only has 3 strings for legs? https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Jackall_Gavacho_Frog/descpage-JKGF.html

That seems to be it! Thank you!

The frog is at 4:00. I can't speak Japanese, but I'm thinking it's some sort of Japanese lure.

Lipped crankbaits for Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston
https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Rebel_Big_Craw_Crankbait/descpage-RBLBC.html I do have a brown one of these. Apparently it drives 8-10 ft, just haven't used it but once this year. And a few dredgers. 17.5, and I think dredger 25.5, but haven't opened them just yet. I think they dive to 19-22ft, but I'm not sure if that's too much right now or not.

What type of fish do you generally try to imitate?

Lipped crankbaits for Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston
Recently I've tried Bill Lewis MR-6's, Mann's Baby 1's, Strike Pro, Pendulum's, and the Rebel ones that is shaped like a crayfish. But over the years I've used a bunch of random ones as well, ranging from different colors. With the exception of the Rebel ones, most of them looks like shads. I'm starting to wonder if shad is just a bad look around here.

Lipped crankbaits for Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston
Update since it doesn't seem to be a lot of people fishing these lakes on here; What crankbaits are you using this time of year? My brother has been catching bass on spinnerbaits, but I can't hook anything with a crankbait.

Lipped crankbaits for Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston
I've caught fish off lipless crankbaits, but can't never catch any with a lipped one. What ones do you suggest? I'm trying to target anything big; bass, pike, gar, etc. I'm trying to break my losing streak of never catching anything on a lipped crankbait...

Trying to find a frog from years ago...
Just seen you're in North Carolina too! Hey! That could be true. In one of my earlier topics about yellow lures, someone posted about a pro fisherman who loves black and yellow jigs, at least I think it was jigs. His reason for not using other combo colors was because everyone else throws them.

What frog is that one? I'm attempted to try and buy one to use. Suddenly I have an urge to try vintage lures.

I've never stated that was the bait in the photo. The photo was an example of what I meant by stringy leg designs, as the frog in the photo actually have that type of legs. The frog I was speaking of didn't have legs like that. I'm not sure why people thought I was speaking of the frog in the image, when it doesn't fit the frog I was defining in my post. Like Tatul pointed out, if someone fished with that frog, they'd probably recall it; not stringy legs, and a hard rubber design. It kinda feels like a gum eraser. I don't think there's ever been a frog on the market like it. Just those two combinations narrows the frog down a lot, considering the majority of frogs are either hard body, or hollow plastic, with many of the hollow ones having the whole stringy design. I haven't thrown one in years. But when I owned one, my frog collection was very limited. I too have been using hollow popper frogs.

It was okay. The frog felt kinda like a gum eraser. Hard body, but you could squeeze it down. Just found it! https://www.walmart.com/ip/Strike-King-Pop-n-Grass-Frog-Bait-Chartreuse-Black-Coachdog-0.25-Ounce/37292128?adid= Apparently it was a Bill Dance promoted lure. https://www.ebay.com/itm/203963417968?hash=item2f7d2ac570:g:5EQAAOSwlaViiuK8

The legs were different than that look. They didn't have the stringy leg design, but instead a single piece of rubber for each leg. Just checked. Unfortunately that wasn't it.

Did they stop making them? The link takes me to the stringy leg design frog.

I think maybe it was an old Spro design, and I'm not sure if they're even made anymore. I purchased it at Walmart many years ago. Instead of having the many strings look for legs, there were two pieces of single rubber on each side for legs. And the frog's body felt like it was hard rubber.

Experienced anglers. Do you still backlash?
In my case it was a small fish, but I may've been in trouble if it were a big one, and it couldn't run out anymore line because of the knots.
-
Experienced anglers. Do you still backlash?
I wonder how many people have backlashed, and while they're picking at it, a fish bites their lure... I had that happen before with a soft plastic.
-
Experienced anglers. Do you still backlash?
I'm kinda cheating since I'm using an Antares DC 16; but yeah, I still get them. I fish at some ponds with a lot of tall grass.

My DC reel friends with...
Everything is brand new, with no changes made to it, never been cleaned. It's all stocked. It seems a lot of people just have trouble with the X mode, and not just me. I'm not sure why. I gotta ask you too; do you have any videos of you using that mode I can watch? Anything helps. Below is a photo of my reel. The tension knob arrived like that new in the box.

Shoot, I can never get it to throw on X mode with even the highest settings on without blacklashing, unless I'm thumbing the spool. A video will be great. I'm beginning to wondering if my spool tension came just too lose, since I have to thumb it all way through the cast.

Hey, welcome to my topic, and thanks for responding. Do you thumb the spool when using the X mode? You wouldn't happen to have any videos of you using it, would you? They're a rare gem to find, it seems.

any of the DC reels with the extreme distance mode, could you post a brief video showing how to use it? Even just explaining it in this topic is fine. I had the Antares DC 16 for a few years now. When I'm not backlashing it, I don't see any distance between that mode and the normal one -- I'm probably thumbing the spool too aggressively. I've even released my thumb when the lure was still flying, like in the video below, but the line just knots up. Certainly I'm just doing something wrong. So far I haven't been able to locate a video that breaks it down good. Heck, most of the videos I've seen that has someone using the x mode, is just someone switching to it, backlashing a lot, then switching back to the normal one.
