Finally tested the Curado 70
Have you tried a 3/8 oz lure yet?

Finally tested the Curado 70
This is an old topic, but I didn't think I should make a new one for a single post. I've tried a new 3/8 spinnerbait, and boy does the line fly off the spool in backlash fashion. Had to turn all brakes on... Lol. I'm accustomed to hitting the spool when the line hits the water, rather than thumbing the spool through the cast -- couldn't do that with two brakes on, though. Typically what is the actual proper way of setting up? Should I only have to thumb the spool when the lines hits the water?

Right or left
Didn't matter, though. It felt awkward after using a left handed spinning reel for so long.

Right or left
I'm right handed. Use right handed baitcasters and left handed spinning reels. A lot of my fishing gear used to come from walmart and kmart when I was a kid, and those stores (least where I live) mostly had their spinning reels with the reel on the left side, so it pretty much grew on me. And before ever buying a spinning reel of my own, the only one ones I used were left handed... Kinda felt as if that's how they're meant to be.

I can get to 3 on the dial, but it backlashes if I don't thumb the spool through the cast on number 2. Not sure if it's the weight of my spinnerbait, or the reel just isn't fully broken in yet.

What line are you using?

Has anyone attempted to fish with all breaks off?
I have a Curado 70, and I was wondering if there should be any difference in cast distance with all brakes off, and on a high number, compared to half brakes off, and on low number. In your reel case, is there a noticeable difference?

Just having one brake doesn't off balance the reel?

Finally tested the Curado 70
The rod I have (I can get a link if need be) is mostly engineered for jigging. It's a Clarus -- I have heard they're decent rods, and apparently the jigging one was the only Clarus I've seen with the recommendations for lure oz going all the way up to 5 oz.

Maybe I just have a horrible rod, but I cannot for the life of me get a cast this long 32:38 I can only get about half of that length with a spinnerbait

Does it says for what lure oz?

Finally tested the Curado 70
I was using my dial the highest it'd go -- I didn't want to take any chances, ha ha ha. I'm gonna have to try your settings for my next go. Usually I fish the high numbers with a spinner bait, but this also my first baitcaster like this. Do you also use 2 for spinnerbaits?

Finally tested the Curado 70
No complaints from me. It's honestly probably the best reel I've ever owned. I was using a spinner bait, but I didn't mess around with the brakes, though (hopefully I'll get a chance to try that tomorrow). It was windy out, and this is my first baitcaster with a brake-type system... Unfortunately I didn't catch anything, but a few small basses. But hey, that's better than nothing. For anyone with the Infinity brake system, what do you generally use? 2 on and 2 off? Don't quote me on this, but I think I've seen somewhere that most people use 2 on and 2 off.

Power Pro braid to Mono conversion help
So basically 30 lb of Power Pro would really be 10, instead of 8?

Power Pro braid to Mono conversion help
Okay, so I was just reading the manual on my Curado 70. For the Power Pro chart in the manual, it lists 40 lb of 80 yards. For the mono chart, it lists 10 lb of 105 yards. And while I'm a new user to braid, I believe it's smaller than mono -- I think? If I'm reading the chart Power Pro has out, 40 lb of braid is equal to 10 lb of mono in size. So why does the Curado chart lists just 80 yards of 40 lb braid, compared to 105 yards of 10 lb mono?

Just brought a Shimano 70.
What distance you getting?

Has anyone attempted to fish with all breaks off?
Just got myself a rod for the reel; a Shimano Clarus. The recommended max line on the rod is 17 lb, but is it safe to use 20 lb braid? 20 and 30 seems to be what most of the baitcasting guys are using.

Straight Braid or Braid to fluoro
I've heard if you wrap braid around the spool a few times before tying it that it won't split. Maybe some of the guys could confirm if that's true or not.

Do you think you could get the same distance with half brakes on, and half brakes off if you bombed it? Obviously that would eventually grow tiring, though.

How do you avoid backlashes? Just don't swing hard?

Has anyone attempted to fish with all breaks off?
By the way, any recommendations from the Curado guys on number dial levels for lure weight?

Has anyone attempted to fish with all breaks off?
How much distance did you get between two brakes off compared to all off?

Has anyone attempted to fish with all breaks off?
Yeah, I currently own a Shimano Curado 70. I haven't dared to turn all the brakes of yet... If you're familiar with the Curado's system, generally how careful must you be when operating a buzzbait with all the brakes off? Is that on a Curado's system?

Would you say there's really any idea weight of a lure to remove all breaks? I've heard most guys used two on and two off, but I was wondering if there's any good reason to remove all. Wouldn't you have to limit your casting to slow casts?
