Did Abu Garcia discontinue the Revo Rocket?

I see that you can't find them anywhere including TW, Cabelas, and others, and Bass Pro has them on deep discount.

They could be phasing them out since they didn't receive an upgrade like the new SX, STX, PREMIER, MGX, etc. They could also be making the next Gen models too... I'm pretty sure the rocket is just an STX that's geared 9:1. If you could find it for say.... $120-130, that's a pretty good deal.

End of life for that product.  The STX comes in a 8:1, so no need.

Is the STX better than the Rocket?

I thought the Rocket was just a fast STX.  Maybe that's not quite correct.

Better how? The Revo rocket picks up 37ipt and the 8:1 stx picks up around  33. As far as the internals and performance, I think they are identical. I have the 8:1 stx and it’s a very good reel. I’ve recently made the switch to Shimano and I don’t believe I’ll be going back anytime soon.

The Revo Rocket and STX are the same reel. They put a 9:1 gear ratio on a STX and rebadged it. That is why there was no price difference. I think the Revo Rocket shined more as a spinning reel than casting. I would look at the STX or SX in 8:1. The new Gen 4 are hard to beat reels.

edit: You can get a brand new Revo SX 8:1 for $80 on Ebay

What's the difference in STX and SX?

STX you get a corrosion resistant frame, Ti-Coated line guide, quick release side plate better Centrifugal brakes.

However the SX you still get top of the material and dual brakes. comparing $165 (sx) and $200 (stx) the STX wins but being able to get the SX for $80 it is a no brainer to get the SX because the STX features are no great enough to warrant an extra $120. The outlier is if you plan on fishing saltwater than go STX.

Cool. Thanks for the info!

Brakes, bearing count, and color.  You can find this stuff out easily by looking at the descriptions on their site.

The SX has dual brakes now?

Edit: just verified, I didn’t know the gen4 sx had centrifugal brakes- definitely makes the SX more competitive.

I love the curado 70. I also have the curado I and it’s pretty good but I think the curado k solves the issues that the Curado I has. I like centrifugal brakes better than magnetic and the curados seem to cast smoother and further than say the STX’s.

Takes time to research all of that. If someone knows about it they can answer it quickly. Plus, starts discussions which is good for discussion boards.  ?

I have always been a fan of the Revos, even during the bad quality control of the Gen 3. But I always went the STX route just for the dual brakes. Now that the SX has them my wallet is happy. I think the Gen 4 so far is the best Revo Abu Garcia put out. That is saying a lot from me because I didn't think they could top the Gen 2.

That’s good to hear; I like the abu baitcasters but the issues I had with the gen3 spinning reels was ridiculous, so for that reason, I will never buy another abu spinning reel again.
