What reel for ripping through grass

Featured Replies

Hi I’m looking for a reel to put on the rod I got for ripping through grass and I was wondering what I should take into consideration like max drag, reel speed, and what line

You probably want a high speed reel.  The rest depends on WHAT you're ripping through grass.

Rattle traps and maybe some Chatterbaits

I use 12# CXX, OG 7.1:1 Zillion , and a LTB 7' mh/f rod for that. ;)

Do you have any recommendations for how much drag the reel should have?

Any low pro baitcaster will have enough drag for bass fishing.  Even the lowest rated drags are over 8#.  That's enough to snap most MH rods on a dead lift.

Alright thanks for the input

I will second the 7:1 ratio and 12-15lb cxx or big game.

Do you think an 8:0:1 would be to fast?

One more thing, do you think an 8:0:1 would be to fast?

For me yes. But it's all personal preference

Depends on the IPT.  I've never felt that 32" was not enough.

The rod and line much more important than reel IMNSHO. Anything with a 6-7:1 (or any of the silly fast ones around) will work. A fairly crisp 7' MH fast rod and 15lb mono or 30-40 lb braid is a good place to start.
