Thoughts on the castaway invicta?

Recommended Posts

Instead of getting the Irod air. I decided to go buy the Castaway invicta 6 6 JWR which it is currently in clearance 30% off.

For first impressions rod looks very polarizing due to its green blank and its orange winn grips which reminds me of an carrot stix. And the rod only weighs 3.7 oz which suprised me. Anyways any owners or ex owners of this rod and any words to say about this rod or your experiences?

I've been curious about castaways for a while. The cx1 and skeleton v2 peaked my interest but I don't know if they fish heavier or lighter or balance or anything

I was on CastAway's pro staff for a number of years.  As a matter of fact, I might still be, I need to check in more often.   They make the most durable rods I have ever fished with.  When I was guiding, I had clients totally abuse those rods and they just continued to perform.  I have some that are 10 years old that are still fishable.  The Skeleton is my personal favorite and I have a couple of the Invicta that I have literally worn the Wynn grip down on from use.  You will find that their stated action (all of their rods) is a little heavier than others.  A medium is more like a mediun heavy for example.  You will not be disappointed in the CastAway line at all.

Although I have never handled an Invicta, I can attest to the durability of Castaway rods. I still have around 10 of them that date back to the 90s that I will never part with. These were some of the originals and they still see regular use for spinnerbaits and larger moving baits. Very rugged! My all time favorite though is a T700SX 7 foot Medium (short handle) Redfish Special. This was a $200 rod back in the 90s and is still my primary rod every time i make it to the Texas Coast (several times per year). This rod has handled numerous 25+ inch specs and 30+ inch redfish in the surf and bays and is still going strong. The finish is about gone and there is a lot of bare graphite showing. It probably should have failed years ago but it keeps going strong. I would buy several more of these if I could find them.
