Also check out the Abu Garcia Veritas, the 2.0 version is popping up on sale in places.  I saw DSG and other retailers selling them 30-50 % off.  I own higher end rods, although don’t own the 2.0: I still have a 1.0 that I use regularly. 7’3 MH/F

The rods I've bought look great. The veritas was brand new, tags attached. I also recently bought a Berkley lightning rod shock, and it had one little burn mark in the cork handle, besides that, great looking rod.

I fish a Veritas 2.0. Great rod. Always on my deck.

 

Fenwick hmg, found one on sale for 40 bucks. Extremely surprised how nice this rod is for the price.

 

I fish a few All Star rods from academy, I've found them on sale for 25 bucks. Not to be fooled by the price, they are a very decent rod.

 

Watch the flea market on here, watch eBay, Facebook fishing pages, you can find some great deals.

As another quick pointer, if you can scrap together $15 a month, LTB is great for getting all kinds of tackle. It ends up being way cheaper than walking into walmart of visiting TW.
