Okay I need some opinions, i am thinking about selling my Dobyns fury 735 so I can get money to buy a 74MH avid x st Croix which is 210$, it will be for Bass Jigs, what should I do? I'm leaning towards the avid x

The Avid line is better than the Fury line in every single way. To get a Dobyns equal to an Avid in sensitivity you have to go to the Champion line.

Yes to me it would be. It will likely be slightly stiffer in the tip section than the Fury you are used to but the sensitivity on the Avid line is above the Sierra. 

It is stiffer in the tip than the 735? Bc that rod is pretty stiff and powerful being a mag heavy. Ok I may sell my fury to a buddy who has been asking for it.

Or if I could find a medium heavy would that be better avid than the heavy for like 3/8 oz jigs to 3/4?

Or an ALX Deputy for about the same price.  Sorry.  Haven't been out with mine so can't give a personal opinion.  Others claim it to be above its price point in sensitivity.

You could also contact Dobyns and sell your Fury back to them and upgrade to the Champion line as someone suggested.

They will give you a good price (I got $90 for a few I traded in a while back) but you will pay shipping there and back.  That's the only downside.

I am staying between either the fury or selling the fury to get a 74H or a 74MH Avid X, between those two choices what would be the best? Thank you so far for the input

I am still waiting on a factory response to this as the rating makes no sense to me on the mhf

That medium heavy rod was pointless in my opinion.

I have used it for frogs, jigs, Carolina Rigs, and have thrown big topwaters on it.

Despite the rating on the heavy it feels good with 2 oz.  Great small swim bait rod.  Don't use the low end so I don't know how true that rating is.  Through's a swaiver 168 like a boss.

What you are not understanding and what many are trying to explain to you is this. You own a Dobyns Fury. Its closest comparable rod would be a Mojo Bass rod.  Are going to step up to an Avid or Avid X for sensitivity and power? If so than consider a Dobyns series that is closest to the Avid/ Avid X rod and in a Dobyns that would be a Champion XP series rod. If you want the best jig rod in that series then look at a Dobyns Champion XP DC 744C. I have heard Gary speak about that rod for fishing jigs and it is one of his favorites.  You can choose a slip grip or full cork handle depending on your preference.

You could do the trade up, or you can simply go get yourself a ST Croix Avid or Avid X. 

One thing that comes along with any Dobyns rod is great customer service. You can call Dobyns and many times Gary himself or his son Richard will talk rods with you personally. I have had many written and phone conversations with those two gentlemen.  I believe you said you waiting on some kind of info from St Croix.  Okay!

Funny, I too was comparing the Avid X to the Sierra, but for a drop shot rod (post is a few days old). Pretty much everyone said the Avid X has a better blank, plus it has a better handle (at least for me) so it looks like that's the way I will be going.

I have the Avid X 7'4 heavy. Its going back. I bought it to use strictly for jigs. It will work for a jig. But I think the rod lacks the tip I want and the power. But it comes down to personal preference. You might really like it. I also have two of the MH F 6'6" and though they will work for a jig. I use them as t- rig and other plastic baits. I purchased them all at once to try them out. The one rod that really shines is the 6'10 ML EXF. Thats a killer dropshot rod. Keep us posted on your decision. Remember it comes down to personal prefrence.

Curious about the lack of power?  I drag in 5-6lb fish with no issue.  

Mabey I didn't explain it correctly. I don't like the way the rod bends for jigs. To each his own. 

would a 7'4 MH avid x be a better jig rod, stalking bass? I don't really want to upgrade in Dobyns even though they make good rods and that is because I may be partnering with st Croix at some point and am trying to decide if switching from  fury to the avid x for jigs would be a good choice

I have never used a dobyns rod. So I can't really tell you which is better. It wouldn't hurt for you to have two rods. If your going to throw a 3/4 oz jig I would go with the 7'4" heavy avid x though. 

Now the fact you want to go try St Croix rods out because you may get a sponsorship with them makes your interest more understandable.  It is less about the upgrade as getting familiar with St Croix.  Sell off your Dobyns and move on. The Fury costs $110 new and the St Croix Avid X costs $210, nearly double. I would suggest that any rod, from any of the major manufacturers, should be better if they cost twice as much. Yes the Axid X will have a more expensive blank and essentially be a better rod compared to the Fury. Now which model is totally up to you.
