I’ve been searching through the forums but couldn’t find an answer. I’m going to be using 30lb braid on a setup for jigs, spinnerbaits/underspins, chatterbaits, plastics, topwater, etc a multipurpose set up. Since I’m going to be using topwater as well as bottom contact baits, should I use a mono or flourocarbon leader? The flouro carbon wouldnt really fly for topwater but I guess I could just change out leaders... Would mono be too stretchy for jigs/ plastics? Or would it be ok to use so I don’t have to constantly change leader type. Thanks!

FC for everything except topwaters and large swimbait.  Premium mono for the latter

If you're going to go that route, mono will be fine and that way you won't have to switch anything out. I also don't think you have to worry about any stretching issues with jigs/plastics. The stretch you'll have will be a benefit, not a liability.

Take yer pick between mono and fluoro...or try a

hybrid like Yo-Zuri Hybrid! *kind of* best of both

worlds....

Mono should be fine as a multipurpose leader.

Most quality mono has the same or less stretch than fluoro. I say go copoly or mono

The great thing about a leader is you can change it out for what you plan to use on any given day! No need to settle for just one leader. If you think you might use a topwater, but also plan to use jigs, tie on a 15 or 17lb mono leader, something strong enough for jig fishing and it'll still float for the topwater. If you plan to be doing mostly spinnerbaits and topwater in clearer water, try 12lb mono, or spinnerbaits and jigs then try 14lb fluorocarbon. You get the idea.

P LIne CXX makes great leader material  Their 10 pound copoly line breaks closer to around 18 pounds. It is very abrasion resistant as well.  My normal spinning setups have Berkley Original Fireline in 14 pound test and a 5 foot leader made of 8 pound CXX. For many of my braid setups on my baitcaster I like the 10 pound est CXX.

I second the cxx. My favorite way to fish is to pitch to the nastiest lay downs/wood cover and I use 17lb cxx as leader material for that application and have had 6lb+  fish wrap me up and the line held great. 1 side note to cxx is it is a bit larger in diameter than other lines. 

I haven't used CXX, but am a huge fan of Hybrid for the same reasons.  It seems like, according to forum members at least, performance between the two is more or less a toss up and they're very similar.  I generally fish jigs with 12lb Yozuri Hybrid, and can immediately throw topwaters on the same rod without changing the leader 95% of the time.  It's pretty neutrally buoyant, and it's breaking strength is somewhere in the 17-20lb range.  

I use P-Line CXX, Trilene XT, or Trilene Big Game.
