New to Bass Fishing Tournaments

Featured Replies

So me and my buddy want to get into tournaments but we don’t really know where to start and we don’t know what to expect either. Does anyone have tips or advice that could help us be prepared or to help us find different tournaments. We live in upstate South Carolina. Thanks!

Anything would be helpful!

cant help you find them in your area, But what specifically are you curious about? if you give a more detailed question I will be glad to answer the best I can.

Check Facebook for Bass groups in your area. I found one named South Carolina Bass fishing, I would join that group and make a post asking about tournaments near you.  It has almost 600 members and 10+ posts a day, so it seems like a pretty active group.

Wednesday and/or Thursday evening tournaments are pretty popular in many places once the time springs forward.  I'd check some popular boat launches near you on those evenings and see if you see anyone to ask.  I know there are several in my area, they usually blast off around 5pm and weigh-in is usually 30 minutes after sunset, you could check the boat launches around those times.

Just anything that would be helpful. Like what to bring on the boat, how pre fishing works, what are the other anglers like?

Well the anglers are just regular people some good some bad but most fisherman are pretty good in my experiance

Before I started tourney fishing I would make sure everything on my boat worked and was legal. Live wells,Nav lights, and all safety gear. Most tourneys require this and even if they didn't I would suggest this.

Prefishing is exactly what it sounds like. You fish before the tournament to try and get an idea what the fish are doing and where they are located so on game day you aren't searching hopefully

You could also try to find a club that allows non boaters so you can join and get a feel for everything while riding with someone else. Also a good way to meet everyone
