7' ML 4-10 lb line Blank

Recommended Posts

Does a 7' med lt 4-10 lb blank have a place in the smallie arsenal.? I just got an email for a sale on this blank (unknown brand) for $27 and wonder if it is too light of an application for fishing smallies. Might try to make my girls some panfish / trout rods..

I think it would be good for small tubes and weightless plastics.  Maybe even #5 Shad Raps.

My first smallie rod.was a Berkeley Lighning rod in that weight class. I use a Lamiglas XMG50 LSJ841same weight class for the same thing now, but our fish rarely get over 4 lbs. 1 1/2 pounders are my bread and butter, same with LMB.

That blank would work well for Ned rigs and for casting cranks that you find too light for your baitcasting rig.  Of course you won't be horsing any big fish out of weeds, but you said smallies, which are more open water fish. I use two similar blanks all the time in open water with fish up to 6 (still looking for the seven) and have no problems.
