Anybody using these on a regular basis?  I fished out of a guys backseat at a tournament last year and he kicked my butt with one. He was in first place with big fish after the first day. He was throwing a black 3/4 oz model with an 8" black culprit trailer.  And he was throwing it in fairly open water.

I've used them before but usually only in a pad field or fairly dense vegetation.  Needless to say, I ordered a couple but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. Anybody using them?

I used to wear the ponds and creeks out with a Silver Minnow with an Uncle Josh pork frog trailer when I was a kid, but I haven't used one in decades.

Oh yes. Never used an 8" worm as a trailer, and I don't throw it in open water much (might need to do more of both) but bass, pike, and redfish gobble it up. The new ones have crappie hooks, when I see some NOS or used ones in flea markets I scoop them up.

Before frogs became popular, we use to cast these spoon atop lilly pads and get crashing bites. One of my all time favorite spoons. And you know what......northern pike and catfish LOVE the 1 1/4 oz. model slow rolled along the bottom.

I bought some Gator spoons last month and was actualy out fishing them for for the first time today. I used a grub as a trailer and really liked the action.  I already use Draggin' Heads for 10' Culprits so I think a spoon would be a good variant rigging. 

 

Does anyone make a spoon with a good hook? I like the Timber Doodle plastic keeper the best but the hooks on those things are awful.  

The Silver minnow was my "frog" in the 80's and 90's...............and I learned that trick from my grandfather who had been doing it since the 40's.

 

One of these days I am going to break out all the old timey tricks he taught me again, and I bet they will work as good, if not better than they used to.
