The WV Weather is Driving me insane

Featured Replies

The weather has been insane this spring here in WV. It's been 80s one day, 40s the next. 65 one night, and 35 the next. It feels the water has been stuck in the 50s for a month now. I went out Friday and caught two little dinks the water is 59 degrees. I went out yesterday it was 60 degrees with 30 mile and hour wind gusts and the water had dropped to 57. The bass have been suspended over the middle for weeks. It's like they came up and attempted to get into prespawn but this bipolar weather has them so confused they just shut down over the middle. I have fished bottom, top, suspended, flats, points, shallow, deep. I have thrown deep diving cranks, shaky heads, jigs, deep diving jerks, shallow jerks, spinnerbaits, lipless cranks, topwater, and drop shots. So far all I have been able to catch is four little dink bass. The good news is that from here on out the 30 day forecast is calling for 70 degrees and up every day. If we can get these nights warmed up hopefully the water will jump up into the mid 60s and that will get the bass moving.

I feel your pain brother. The weather in VA is the same. The wind seems to be constantly blowing here everyday... even if the temps rise up enough to get things going its hard for me to fish in this wind.

I can relate ~

Last week we had a foot of snow and today the NWS put up a "Fire Warning" -

And my local lakes are STILL frozen -

If that ain't a kick in the stones I don't know what is.

Most of us in the northeast know how you feel @RHuff. Yesterday was in the mid 40's with snow flurries in some areas. Today started out with more snow and low 30's then rain and now sun and mid 60's. Tomorrow is gonna be in the high 70's. Not really sure where the bass will be or even if they will bite.

Just checked the extended forecast on Weather.com.....Friday brings another cold front....smh...crazy....next four (WORK) days look awesome...Sat/Sun not so much

Yup- tough here in the hills but could change today (maybe)

Same weather we've been having in central WV too RHuff. Water in the 50's everywhere. We had frost Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday mornings. Looking at the local tourney results, guys have been catching some good bags. Took 16lbs to win at Stonewall Saturday. And about the same to win Burnsville on Saturday. And at the Buddy Trail on Burnsville Sunday, there were several 3+lb fish weighed in. Big fish Sunday was 6.5lbs. Had several bags over 10lbs. My partner and I had 4 dinks and 1 keeper. And like you, we threw everything imaginable. Only things I got bit on were a jig and a dropshot.

We're on the Kanawha River Sunday, launching at Nitro. I don't know what kind of game plan to come up with before we get there.

Monantaro whatever you did it must have worked. Lord how mercy my home lake has come alive. Caught 9 nice ones yesterday on jigs. They are tight on the bank holding to cover.

I hope Stonewall is the same this weekend... It's been high and dirty all week. Might try for a little while Saturday after baseball.
