Favorite Sun Gloves

Featured Replies

I just watched Matt Allen go to the dermatologist.  Last year I started wearing the long sleeved sun shirts and sun gaiter, and stopped wearing sun screen.  It's not even close.  Sun apparel is way better than sun screen.  I just need to get a couple of pairs of gloves to finish off my fishing outfit. Anyone have any opinions about brands and variations of gloves?  I have never worn gloves before.  I notice some have leather.  Others are palmless.  I don't like to switch hands with a baitcaster.  I am right handed, cast with my right hand, and reel with my left hand if that makes a difference.

I saw that! Bro, it just isn't worth not being protected. I just got my first neck gaiter as well. Unfortunately I can't help you decide on gloves as I am still doing the homework myself, but can i ask what sun shirts you wound up trying? I look like a stuffed sausage in most under armor type shirts ?

I have one Columbia PFG, and an Under Armor shirt.  I like the Under Armor shirt a little better because it seems to be more durable.  The Columbia product, while nominally lighter, shows a little bit of wear on it from the washing machine. However, I can tell it will easily make it through another season.  I got both shirts about the same time.

Simms solarflex sungloves. I like the open palm. Had mine for 3 seasons now and love them. It took a trip or two to get used to wearing gloves, but now i dont eve notice them. Much better than greasy hands and fingers from sunblock. I keep them, my neck gaiter, and a wide brim hat together. I like the columbia shirts personally, but i never put them in the dryer, just hang up on clothesline, its usually the dryer that damages clothes to me.

I second that Under Armor fish shirts are durable. I've got a few that I've washed MANY times and they look brand new.

Glacier Gloves

+1

I have two different versions of the Glacier Gloves (Ascension and Islamorada) as well as the Columbia PFG gloves. The GGs have held up with machine washing, while the Columbias say spot clean only. I like the Islamoradas a bit more, less synthetic leather and more palm feel of the rod.

+2 Extremely comfortable for long periods on the water. Easy to wash. Only downside, they get a little torn up if you’re constantly lipping fish. Their pads get caught on the material. You can get them relatively cheap on Amazon as well.

As far as shirts go, I have a Colombia omni-shade, Magellan, and Huk. For me the Huk shirt is the best and it's not even close. It is the coolest and makes my Colombia feel thick. I like the shirt so much I decided to try out the gloves can't really say much about them yet, only used them once. They have a rubberized texture in the palm for grip that I either love or hate... just not sure which yet.
