Found a double whopper plopper on a tree, but do they work?

Featured Replies

simple question, does the bait really produce fish the way the normal whopper plopper does?

First of all - Why was it on the tree ?

Ironic - that is how I acquire my whopper by finding it on the shore while fishing.

I never used one but I’m thinking they are very similar to a double buzz bait and they look big and clunky but they do work.

From what I've heard they were a flop but its worth a shot. You've got one right, might as well throw it and see what ya get

They're in the discount bin at Dick's Sporting Goods. That should tell you something.

But you scored a free lure, so give it a shot. If it doesn't produce just cast it back into that tree.

I saw a Bama Bass video and bought one to give it a shot.  I tried it a couple times and put in my "lures i'll never use" box.  Things I didn't like:

-Casting distance was very poor, like casting a balsa bait

-Very sensitive to rod angle and retrieve speed

-Prone to getting hog tied in my experience, which would lead to it running poorly

and most importantly

-No strikes, even on a pond where I can count the number of times i've been skunked on one hand.

Saddest part was I paid full price for it!

It was probably in the tree because the owner misjudged how heavy it was when he or she cast.

Or it could have been in the tree because they threw it there in frustration at not catching anything...
