I recently opted to add a 8mm facceted bead to my Texas rig again, after a few years of not using one. In throwing roboworm 41/2 worms 1/0 straight shank hook, along with zoom trick worms. The lakes I fish are clear, old quarry lakes. This morning caught 4 decent bass on this rig.Now, In going to keep a rod rigged this way. In fishing it with a light shake when the worm hits bottom, followed by slow lift and drag retrieve. This is a great way to fish. Now I'm doing it again after getting away from it for a while.Anyone else still using beads on a Texas rig, or has this gone out of style now? If so , do you peg the weight or bead, or let them slide freely on the line. Working good for me

I still use them, if you peg the weight it defeats the purpose of the bead. I leave it free so it makes the clicking noise to imitate that crawfish noise.

If you peg them with just a bit of space, you should still get a click. Doesn’t take more than a mm or so.

i use to not peg mine cause it does click, but if you peg it just 3 to 2 inches above the hook it will still make the click and you can still get in thick stuff if need or want be.

Sorry, what I meant with pegging was being right up against the weight.

On a c rig I use red beads plus a brass clicker and weight. In the head of the plastic I put a tiny worm rattle sometimes.

I stopped using beads about 10 years ago.  I never noticed a difference in numbers or size.

Do you use brass, lead or tungsten weights?

In using brass weights. In painted them black. I've read that brass is best, better than lead, don't really know about tungsten

Whatever bead is louder because fish come to the sound, i use glass.

I peg about a mm up from my weight to get the clicks. I also feel that the bead helps my knot.

I use brass- I do not have hard bottoms where I fish so the benefits of tungsten are minimal.

 

I also paint my brass on "top"

 

My standard rig.....Bobber stopper 2 or 3 inches above hook.  Bullet weight, metal bead, glass bead, hook.  Works good makes some good noise.  Catches fish. 

I do a plastic bead, steel bullet weight no peg so it slides freely on the line.

Go back to Walmart and got to the crafts section.  You can find glass and metal beads of all types for less than a dollar.  I have more than enough beads and such for the rest of my life and I guarantee I didn't spend 5 bucks total

I think those would be glass.  They do feel like plastic though.

It's possible. I always assumed they were plastic.
