i'm looking into upgrading my sonar.

was curious if the new gps units in color are really that much better than regular units in b/w?

is the gps with maps,chartplotting worth the extra 200-300 dollars?

Yes they are worth the extra money...Especially if you do alot of deep water fishing like we do up here on the great lakes.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ya! Worth every penny. Especially if you are on a new lake or running in a dangerous body of water like the CT River. And it come sin handy when the fog or a storm rolls in. Also if you fish a lot of night tourneys it is a good investment.

i'm looking at buying 2,  one for the bow, one for the console.

i mainly fish rivers and small lakes in va.   water normally 40 ft. and less.

i was looking at the h-bird  580 c  with gps   and the 565 for the bow.

both have 640 x320,  and are over 2000 watts.

just debating on spending more for color or not??

Once upon a time B/W and then grey-scale is all we had.  Granted, color is much more expensive, but it's like high speed Internet.  Once you've tried it, you will never go back.  The difference is very much worth the additional cost.

you may get people saying "you don't need color or GPS". well, those people haven't tried it. like said. once you try you will never want to go back. Color is the way to go. I run  2 Humminbird's Matrix 87c and a 787c both color & gps and would not trade either. they are great

check out the 787c2I, it has the internal GPS so no puck anttena, and you can get upgraded mapping cards.

also I haven't yet, but you can get a interlink from humminbird and it will hook both units up to each other so the share everything.
