What do you do with the last 30 feet or so of the spool? I hate to waste it, so I used to attach it to the next, fresh spool with a double uni know. I say "used to" because each and every single time I did that, the line would, without fail, snag up on the exposed ends of the double uni knot. I used a magnifying glass to clip the ends as unbearably close as I could, and still the snags came. This leads to several question:

1. Is that what a double uni is for, and am I, therefore, doing it wrong?

2. If that is NOT what a double uni is for, then what is it for?

3. What do YOU do with those last 30 or so feet? Seems terrible to waste it.

I do what you use to do. Attach the last 1/2 of the spool to the fresh line with a double uni and never had a problem. Granted I never let the spool get so low that the knot would snag as I was casting. I do this on both my bait casters and my spinning reels. Never had a problem. My suggestion, don't wrap the line so many times. I only go thru 3 or 4 times. 

Blood knot or discard the short piece of line.

Pre-tie your carolina rigs and put each one in a small 2x3" bag....is what I do....

Discard it  after you cut a long piece off and put in your Med kit, to be used to remove a hook from a fleshy part of a body

I understood you to ask what to do with the last bit of line left on a spool.

 

I sit down at home at my leisure and make up carolina rigs so I'm not wasting a lot of time building them on the water.

I use so much braid that only the shortest lengths of line can’t be used leaders.

Ohhh!  Sorry,  makes sense now. My brain was focusing on the knot used... dummy....

I used to have the same problem but reducing the amount of wraps to 3 or 4 made the knots slide easier when you pull them together and made the knot much smaller. Too many wraps especially with braid makes it difficult to slide the knots together fully as they always seem to stop short of each other and caused problems with snagging.

Thanks, WRB. I just blood-knotted it.

 

If it snags, I'm blaming you...

I would say discard it, or use it as leader/backing. You don't wanna loose that fish of lifetime with just 30' of line or spend all day try to untangle when the knot hit tip top guide and backlash
