EReplacementParts.com for Abu Replacement Parts
fwiw I've never had a problem with them. Just make sure it's in stock, otherwise your whole order sits there until the out of stock item shows up. Used them also for lawnmower and refrigerator parts. I have cancelled an order, tired of waiting on an out of stock item and then place another order minus that particular out of stock item. Easy to cancel an order and get a refund with a couple of clicks. I've used Paypal and credit cards...... Parts on ebay have gotten silly, to where sellers are parting out reels now..... Maybe I'm the exception....jmho

Abu round reels from Japan
Just curious, I pick up a used Abu round reel from time to time to work on and use, started noticing on ebay listings, the Abu round reels from sellers in Japan are going for $200, 300, 500 each, used. $500 for a used reel from Japan I can get from sellers in US for $50? I don't see anything special, what's the big picture I'm missing? TIA

Id say try some, been using 17# the last few days worming. Spools up like mono, lays on spool great, not stiff at all, sinks and noticed it stays clean and doesnt turn icky colors in backwaters. Hell to break too, sounds like a gun going off! At four bucks for 300 yards, go for it. I use older Abu round reels, I have plenty of backing and only use 80 to 100 yards at a time. fwiw edit: I see the link still works, ordered some more at $4/300yards.

fwiw Got the Kastking $4 fluorokote line in today. It's in the older white boxes, not the latest packaging. At first glance, diameter for 17# I received is same as new stock diamter. Not having any experience with their line, unknown if any changes were made at the time the new packaging was released. Where I fish, no line is bulletproof...... Will see how it goes, loaded a reel for plastics.... Edit: just noticed on the back of packing, the line diameter rows labeled in inches and millimeters have been reversed; an obvious typo.

Standard Palomar With Braid?
I grew up with a clinch knot then an improved clinch knot. Switching to a trilene knot for braid and all lines was a lot easier for me. Simply a clinch knot with two passes through the eye. jmho

Is this an accurate way to test reel max drag ?
I use to grease my drag components to make them smoother. I didn't realize until later it also makes the drag weaker. I clean and leave the components oil free if I can, greatly improves old Abu round reel drags. fwiw

Ambassadeur C3 Problems?
Ive had the little washer under the spool bearing under the brakes be flattened, put a little bow back into it and I think your range of adjustment should return. It should have a little bow, spring to it....

Been a while, just checked Lurenet for any specials. Several and when I added them to the cart, they got even cheaper than the posted clearance price and free shipping over $25 I think. I got a bunch of the 7.5" worms and 2.75" jig trailers... https://www.lurenet.com/internet-specials?dir=asc&order=price&p=1

Thanks but no thanks. I've never gotten use to the 4600/5600 thumb button models. I've been use to pressing IN on the bar to leverage the cast (using pistol grip rod) and thumb the spool for so long, pushing DOWN onto the thumb button is too foreign lol.

BPS buys?
Scan all the price tags. They use to use red ones for markdowns, sometimes now they are red, sometimes regular tags. But I've been picking up a few jigs, spinnerbaits, and plastics for half price or less lately. Lot of work I know...

Slower gear ratio vs higher gear ratio
Here you go Tom... http://www.realsreels.com/ABu Reals Bob Hulme.pdf I have the older ones, 3.8 they are. Great for worms and jigs, great for spawns with hogs. Hell on anything else if you're in a hurry lol. 80s brought in the 4.7 hispeed reels and the ultracast change where the spool spins on the shaft. The later reels are 5.3. (few exceptions of course, the 5500 series were hispeed before the 5000 was) Steve

Link? My thoughts....if not a US seller, RUN! If not an existing manufacturer, RUN!

Getting Deeper into Cranking
Deep for me is Rat-L-Traps and Spots, letting them sink and sorta pulling them up a foot or two and keeping the line taught as they fall. Don't they count as crankbaits?

Super Lube Grease
Been using it for many years, started when you could get it as a spray. Never has dried out after years in a reel in storage, a huge plus.

Zebco Omniflex Mono?
To revisit an old thread... I tried the Walmart Shakespeare Omniflex line years ago, just junk. Not any good at any price imho. But, it's now Zebco Omniflex lol. At the store, the line just looked better, thought I'd give it a try. Used some 10lb (.012") all day today on spinnerbaits and spots on a couple of old Abu 5000s, cast nicely, supple, and didn't see any issues. A huge jump from the last Shakespeare spool I tried years ago.

Weighted hooks effective?
as been mentioned in other threads, I use worm hooks and if it isn't a good day for throwing it or the worm is too light, I'll crimp a lead split shot on the curve of the hook after I put the worm on. Helps it run with the point up also. Lot cheaper too!

Fingers/Hand Issues - too much fishing?
Pick up a couple left handed models of your reels. Doesn't take long at all to get use to them. I have a bad day every once in a while, if I didn't have a couple of Abu 5501 reels, I'd have to cut the trip short.

Yum Christie Craw
I like these also by Yum, on clearance at Lurenet. When it's slow, will work fine by themselves. https://www.lurenet.com/yum-bad-jamma
