6’9 mlxf avid spinning rod for jerk baits?

Featured Replies

Has anyone use the avid x 6’9 mlxf for jerk baits or even 1/8 rooster tails? i know a lot people use this rod for dropshots and things like that. The lure rate for this rod is 1/8 to 1/2. Thanks for any info

I personally don't like XF rods, but a St. Croix ML F is my first choice for my smaller jerkbaits, spinners, Ned rigs, or any of my smaller baits that fall in the weight range of the rod in mostly open water.

So do you think the mlxf rod would be alright for that?

Sure I think it will work. There are dozens of other guys who wouldn't use a ML rod for anything. There is no one way that is correct. If you already have the rod, go out any try it.  The only thing that matters is if you like it.

True thanks

That's the rod I use for light jerkbaits. The rod's balance and XF action makes it easy for me to fish baits aggressively, and fish rarely come unhooked, so I'd highly recommend it. I've caught well over 1,000 fish on it, and I have no plans to ever replace it.

I've never used it for anything but jerkbaits, so I can't comment on sensitivity.

for 1/4 oz jerkbaits and under, yes.  Anything heavier and this rod would not be my first choice.
