Small summer pond fishing

Featured Replies

Hello everyone I am fishing a half acre pond in the summer it does not have much vegetation or brush piles in the middle it about 8 feet. Can I get help on how to fish it and what lures I should use. Thank you

Welcome to the board. I can't think of a much better bait than a 6" Texas rigged worm for starters. I'd throw about everything I have in the box except for deep divers until I figured it out. Early or late I'd try topwaters because I love them.

Another vote for a Texas rigged worm.

Any color worm will do as long as it's purple ;)

Just kidding. Black, purple, watermelon or pumpkin are good starters. My all time fav pond bait is the Zoom Trick Worm in bubble gum.

ok thank you I'm never comfortable fishing a t rig because I don't really know how to use it but I will give it a try thank you.

Little vegetation, pretty shallow... you're messing up if you're not fishing a wacky rigged Senko or a Senko at all really. Skip right past Texas Rigged worms and go have a field day.

I'm with the plastic worm crowd here too. Work a straight or curly tail worm slowly along the bottom, with an occasional pause. Use the lightest weight that you can cast to get a slow fall. Topwaters can be good early morning or evening. A plus for you is that a smaller pond is a perfect place to learn Texas rig fishing. Good luck

Try a jig/craw combo during the day, topwaters and spinnerbaits early and late.  I also fish a small pond like yours and these are my best performers.

You'll do well to use downsized lures in small ponds, at least for numbers.  Still, don't be afraid to try big stuff too.

And definitely learn the Texas rig - one of the bread and butter techniques for bass!
