Exploring Daiwas

Featured Replies

Finally sold my Antares DC. Looking to get into Daiwas. Looking for an all around reel, mainly t-riggs and weightless plastics. Been eyeing the Tatula SV. Any other Daiwa reels worth looking into for around $200-300?

The tatula sv is a great reel. I have 2. Both are for pitching and skipping. I plan to pick up 1 or 2 more for senko and finesse jig work soon. No need for me to spend anymore on a reel than what a sv will run you on ebay.

Keep an eye out for the eBay coupons you can use. They had a 15% off one just a couple days ago.  See if you can grab a Steez A for $300. Even a Steez SV103 or zillion 1016 sv would be a good choice.  As much as I am a Daiwa fan, I think going from the Antares dc to a Tatula sv will leave you wanting a little more. Just a guess and I could be wrong.

I’d wait for the new Tatula coming out soon. I will be getting one of these when they come out. They’ll almost definitely release an SV.

I truly believe the excitement in all of the promo videos for the new smaller version of these reels is genuine.

Right, it’s a huge downgrade. The new Curado dc has peaked my interest, so I went ahead and pre ordered one. I feel like I’ve cheated on my wife now haha.

Hey, when you get it I would love to see it next to an Alphas and an sv103 if you have the chance to snap a pic.  I am really interested in one as well but I am quite fussy about reel ergonomics and have no sense of how Shimano's reels compare size-wise.

What was it about the old Steez platform that made the reel uncomfortable to palm?  That reel is very close to an Alphas/Pixy but a little wider.  The Curado K is wider and longer than an Alphas so you may not like it.

I thought I had a picture of my issue, but I am not finding it.  Basically I could not find a comfortable spot for my index finger when I was palming the reel.  I like to keep my pinky behind the trigger, so rod/reel fit is really important.  Honestly, only the Alphas/Pixy and the sv103 have been comfortable across a broad range of rods.  I picked up an Aldebaran 50 this past winter and find it really comfortable, so I am starting to look at Shaminos more and more.

I’ve never heard anyone say the 1st gen steez is uncomfortable.  Anyhow, the new Curado dc is built off the Curado K frame. If you can find one to fondle then you’ll have a good idea. The large gearbox of the Shimano reels concerns me, but I know with this purchase I won’t get stuck if I don’t like it.

Cool thanks!

The specific reel I had an issue with was the Steez ltd sv 105XH, I am not sure what frame "generation" they belong in.

You can find an OG Steez for 200-250, same for an SV103. Intrigued by the new Tatula, will wait for more people to review it.

also Zillion HLC is stupid sick with casting distance
