Minnkota Bow Mount

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a Minnkota bow mount trolling motor for my 16 ft aluminum v-hull boat. What's a good pound thrust and volt system that you would recommend. I tend to use the trolling motor quite often as well.  I'm trying to keep it under $800, thanks!

You can base your power requirements on the wet weight of your boat including tackle, fuel, people etc.  Then figure 2lbs of thrust for every 100 lbs of boat.  That should provide you a basic idea of your power requirements, then throw in a little more for 'just in case'.

I overdid it on mine.  I have a 55# thrust motor on a 15' aluminum jon.  But it moves the boat with authority and definately handles wind.  I recommend exactly what Tucson said - over do it a little.

I always get the most thrust I can afford  :)

we have a 40lb thrust minn kota on our 14ft v hull. i dont know if 2 extra ft will make a difference.

exactly, id rather be overpowered than under powered :)

If you want to stay under $800 then almost anything is in your budget except for a 36 volt TM. I would go with a 24 volt TM. yes its a bit more power than you might need, but having more power is better than not having enough. On my 15 foot V hull I have a 52# minkota, and I hate it. wish I had more power. First off its a power drive and I hate that style motor. wish it was a cable steer. I am looking at getting a new motor for it and am looking at a 71-82 # 24 volt system. On my big boat I run a 109# 36 volt TM. I have put that TM on my 15 footer and it was great. way more than I needed, but fun. I would go with a 24volt TM. 65 -71 #
