Is the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 a good rod for the $?

Featured Replies

I have couple (7’6” MH BC, and 7’ MH spinning).  They were definitely worth the price - but I only paid $32/each when Abu was clearing them out couple years ago.  Some people have had them break for no apparent reason, but thankfully I haven’t had any issues with mine - and they get quite a bit of work - especially th 7’6” broomstick.  At $100, I’m sure there are better rods out there, but if you can get one at significant discounts - I wouldn’t hesitate to get another on.

As the title says.  Anyone have these rods?  Are they worth the $?  Thanks!

How many $?

Probably.

I have one that cost me $99 a few years ago.  Worth it then.  Probably can be had for much less now.

I've never fished one but fish other cheap Abu rods and put them through a beating with no issue. That's why I kinda like cheaper rods like this, I don't have to feel bad being a bit rough on them.

I enjoy using MH casting veritas a lot. It's not as sensitive as some of my others, but it's lightweight, casts well and is my all around workhorse rod. It's handled quite a few 32-40" pike marvelously

I own five Veritas of various configurations. Two are 2.0’s, and yes, they’re worth the money.

They fish a little heavier than their rating when compared to my other rods: Fenwick, ***, and Kistler.

Best of luck with your choice.

Yes

No complaints here. I would buy all I could afford at $30 each.

Not really.  I picked up 7' M spinning for $50 when they came out.  Meh.  I had a 7'MH 1st gen and it was decent rod at the time in that it was really well balanced but some of the guides fell out and it was a broom handle that didn't cast very well.  It pitched jigs just fine and had power the drive the hooks home so it was usable.  I'm not a fan if the Veritas rods after owning a two.  I think the Vendetta is better value for your money with more accurate power ratings.  The Tatula rods are the best  $100 rods out there right now IMO if you can get past the gold accents.

Great info, thanks.  I see the reviews on the Veritas havent been too great.

The only issue with the entire Veritas line has been some of the guides can pop out. I have a friend that fishes for big bass, stripers, and often catches big snakeheads on the Potomac River. He loves the 7 foot Medium mod Veritas rods for throwing rattle trap type bait s as well as some top waters.  He has had a few issues but likes the blanks he has had  the guides replaced on a few. The blanks are worth it alone.
