Hi guys, just started bass fishing couple of days ago in some local parks and i was wondering what is you giys routine (lures or baits) when fishing a new lake or ponds or canals and when to move on, also i been looking for ripples in the water as sign of life, is there anything i should be looking for? Thanks any help is apreciated.

 

My first bass, 2 days ago, local park.

Always look for bait to help identify productive waters. Also always fish something unique or isolated from the rest of the lakes cover harder. Those spots tend to be productive.

First thing I do is take a few minutes to observe the area. Wind direction, bait fish around, birds hunting for fish, signs of life in the water, then trying to identify the species observed in the water ie bass, carp, catfish, trout.

 

Always look for trees in the water, rocks, shaded areas. Then cover the water columns, Texas rigged worm or creature bait for bottom, drop shot for a bit off the bottom, chatterbait or inline spinner for middle of the water column, I have very little luck with top water poppers or frogs but some people swear by them.

April to Oct. a weightless wacky rigged stick worm (Senko type) will tell you a lot about the pond.

Thanks for the advice guys...i been looking at some water bodies around on google earth  sadly most are always part of a propertie or some business, parks are what mostly is easy access, but i saw lots of people dont like parks, why?

I'd try a frog if there are weeds or pads present. I usually have a Trick Worm tied on my spinning rod as well. I like all the usual bass baits, but fish might be conditioned to the most common ones. When I approach a pond, I'll usually walk the dam and areas I can get to before I put my kayak in. Pay attention to baitfish and small fish around the edges and any movement you see. I often catch a couple from the bank before I get in the kayak. If I spook a fish I'll leave that area and try it again at least 15 minutes later. Their memories are short unless you stick 'em. Then I just throw the baits I think will work based on season and conditions.

Parks get pressured. Fish will be more "educated". It's good to try to show them something they haven't seen yet.

 

It never hurts to ask private pond owners. All they can say is yes or no.

Makes sense guess with the easier access they over fished. I have a canal next to me run pretty long guess ill give it a try but i can onky do bank fishing.
