Recommendations on a new rod?

Featured Replies

So i generally just bass fish, and fish freshwater bodies. I've been looking into a few different rods, one being one of these new edge rods coming out soon that are $150. I'm looking into spinning rods, and i guess i'd get the medium-heavy fast action pole, but honestly 7 feet 4 inches just seems d**n long to me.

Another one that looks pretty good is one of the Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0s from bass pro shops, or a St Croix Mojo or Avid.

Definitely open to any suggestions and if you guys have any opinions on the rods listed that would be great.

Can't go wrong with an Avid.

At this point im generally just overwhelmed with the selections, and the edge rods are catching me cause they look so slick. That's not a great reason to pick a rod, but i know Loomis makes great rods.

I also have fished my friends St Croix, don't remember the model but they are very nice. Tried and true might be the way to go i suppose

If you are fishing from the bank with a bunch of trees and stuff you have to try to cast around, 7'4" can be a tad long.  Otherwise, it is a great rod length.

Are you just looking for this rod to be a general/do everything rod?

The St. Croix Avid series are great rods. If you go with this line, I suggest Medium Power/

Fast Action. St. Croix "Medium Power" is more like MH in other brands.

that is the exact rod i'm leaning toward right now, The Avid X Medium/fast rod. Do you have a length suggestion? Thinking the 6 8.

Yep, im leaning towards the 6 foot 8 inch Avid X. In general the Edge Delta looks great, but i can't find anywhere when they actually release and fishing season only has a couple more weeks up here in new england and i'd rather have a rod in a few days to use.

Nobody has said this yet but I love my carbonlite, the avid x is also an amazing rod though.

While it doesn't  answer  your question directly, I would not hesitate to buy another Avid

I might be off track right now but I "discovered" Fenwick Aetos Series this year and fell in love. I own a 7' spinning MH/Fast Aetos and it's about to became my favorite rod. Fish heavier tube with it and its light and sensitive

I have a 7’ medium fast avid x spinning paired with a stradic ci4+ and that’s a heck of stick, now I also fish a lot (not mine but in the boat) a 7’ medium heavy fast action avid x with a diawa tatula sv casting rod and once again an unreal rod! I fish rods from 6’6”-7’6” and my favorite overall length even from bank is between 7’ and 7’3” roughly. The added length over a 6’6-6’10” rod gives you more leverage, way better casting distance which makes all the difference from a bank, still easy to control on tighter quarters. When the weeds are at there peak around the ponds I fish my 7’ rod gets a ton of use.
