Hey guys I just ordered and recieved a Lews tournament pro G today. Quick question, so I see it has external brakes as well as 6 pin centrufugal braking inside the reel. My question is, I was trying to mess with the 6 pins inside, but they won't click on or off? Does this reel only let you adjust the external breaks, not the internal breaks?

 

 

Update: Called them, and they explained it to me, thanks guys!

I ended up reading somewhere it looks like a dual braking system, but really the pins inside just do their own thing or something like that lol. I'm still a little bit confused, but I'm trying to figure it out. Thanks for the input!

I was looking on Lew's website and it say externally adjustable brakes so maybe they don't adjust

Yeah I acutally just gave Lews a call about 5 mins ago, the Mrs's said the internal brakes stay as they are, don't click or anything. The external breaks control them as they are adjusted. And yes sir, Lews for life!

Quick tangent question... I have a Lews Mach 1 combo.   Reel has 4 adjustable centrifugal brakes and externally adjustable magnetic braking.  Can anyone comment in how the centrifugal brakes work and in conjunction with the magnetic brakes.   I ask because 1) I don't know the answer and 2) why would the Pro G have these as non-adjustable?   Should I be running all 4 centrifugal brakes ON all the time?   Many thanks.   Love this little combo.  ?

Ok so I think I'm pretty familiar with that set up because thats how all my other reels are lol. So the the person I talked to explained to me In the Pro G, the external brakes control the internal ones. Basically meaning, If I put it on max brakes, the brass(which is controlled by the external brakes) gets closer to the 6 pins and they start doing their magic. If I put it on free spool, the brass backs off and those 6 pins don't engage whatsoever. So basically the 6 pins are dependent on the external brakes and without them wont do anything.

 

With your reel, it has External and Internal brakes that you can both adjust which is considered dual braking. I would say the brakes on the inside have more of a effect, so I would recommend 2 on and 2 off. If you have all 4 of them on, thats like all the brakes turned on and you aint gonna cast that far. I cannot tell you exactly how they work with each other, but from experience with other reels I can say the internal is more important than the external.

Very helpful!  I'll double check and go to 2 pins ON and see how that works.  I bank fishing public ponds, so no super long casts absolutely needed, but I'll take every little bit available.  Tight Lines!

I have the Mach 1 combo and I can bomb a Whopper Plopper with 2 pins on, 2 off and the external brake set somewhere in the middle.

 

Some kayakers were in the middle of the river I was fishing and were joking, "look there's a guy fishing, don't worry he can't hit us from there." I laughed and said I can but I won't, I'll cast it a yard in front of you to prove it. I did and they were amazed. Also caught a Smallie on the retrieve back to amaze them again.
