Worm bite

Featured Replies

I don’t know about you guys but I haven’t caught a fish on any type of worm in over a month. They seem to ignore them all together lately. I e gotten a few on spinnerbaits and some top water lately but that’s only a short window when it’s on. Idk, a couple spinners, topwater s and cranks but nothing real consistent at the ponds I go to. Sucks when you can’t go back to a worm and catch a few fish.

I've been noticing the same thing.  Worms have slowed up considerably on my favorite pond.  Topwater has come alive though and I've started to have some luck on spinnerbaits.  I just figure it has to do with the fish activity level and the fall transition.  I follow up with a worm after a blowup/miss on topwater and the just ignore it. Repeat the topwater cast and they try to smoke it again.  I decided to stop trying with the worm while other stuff is working better.  My worm fishing tends to really pick up again after all the leaves have fallen and the water is cooler.

First thing I always try to figure out when I hit the water is which way the fish are looking and adapt my baits/presentation to them.

Looking down.....ned, shakey head, jig, creature bait, c-rig

Looking up....Topwater, most spinnerbaits, frog, fluke

Looking straight ahead. Cranks, underspins, swimbaits grubs.

Of course some baits cover more of the water column (and that's why they are top performers) like a slow falling senko and some baits can be made to work in different sections of the water column depending on the retrieve or lure weight.

Don't feel bad.  Worms were great for me a month ago, but last few trips, not a nibble on one.

Ditto for me as well. I attribute to the temperature cooling change. I bank fish. I noticed a lot of algae coverage is gone in close, and pads are sparser, the dragon flies in close are absent. So I assume they have moved off the banks. Time to gravitate to Spinner baits and some cranks. Not a sniff on last two tries.

They weren’t biting anything today. Third day after a good rainstorm, blue bird skies.

I caught one on a wacky rigged Senko yesterday and then again today. They like the jig better right now though. But if you e got a topwater bite going don’t worry about the worm lol. I’d kill for some topwater action but they’ve been having none of it lately.

If a worms not working then don’t throw a worm??‍♂️ Throw something else plenty of soft plastics you can choose from anyhow it’s fall the bass are moving, so a faster presentation might be better.
