Saving your wacky rigged plastics from ripping!

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

Not sure if anyone has posted this or not yet. I have looked but couldnt find anything?.. So here it goes.

Some of you may know this trick already... But what I just found out from my fishing buddy, is if you wacky rig a senko or any other type of plastic worm, you can use an o-ring.. Just get your hook, and put the o-ring around the plastic, and then put the hook between the ring and the worm, and slide it down to the middle part of the bend in the hook. Works really well for me, and saves alot of money and rips.

To find the correct o-ring size, take your plastic(s) to a hardware store, and see what fits. It needs to be snug, and not loose.

Good luck, and I hope I taught at least one person this trick. Thanks!

Sweet!!! We just fished a tourney last night and went through a bunch of worms on the wacky rig...Thanks for the tip!!!

Thanks for the tip, but IDK, I tried this for the first time and you lose just as many plastics.  I had one fish grab the senko and slide it right out of the ring.

Ive never tried wacky rigging before but the hardware store is right down the street from me.

Im gonna go pick some up today, thanks!  ;)

There are tools out there that make putting the ring on an easy task.

Locally, Lowes and Home depot had the best selection and best prices for o-rings.  They were in plumbing section Lowes was cheapest locally at $1.29 per box of 10 o-rings.

Also BPS has a good wacky tool at a fair price.  http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=95042&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

Try a size smaller ring. I get mine at Home Depot. Not sure the brand name of the company, but there are so many out there I just grab what looks best.

Good luck!

That's not true at all.  If you have a thicker pen lying around, take the ink and spring out of the middle of it.  You then put the senko(or whatever you're using) into the pen until the end of the pen lines up with where you want the ring to be.  Then, slide the O-ring on from the thin side until it's on the lure.  Good luck.

there arent many thick pens out there, so what i like to use is a sharpie. but it might be a problem getting all the guts out of a sharpie...never tried.

You can also use the back end of a size 2512 Easton aluminum arrow shaft. It should be big enough. :-?
