My boat is in the weather year around...will it rot out?

Featured Replies

I have Lowe 1457V and currently it has no decking or carpet in it so it won't be a problem. But I have been reading all the threads on conversions here and on the net and believe I want to add some decking to make the boat more fun and convenient to fish from.

We don't get rain in Central Texas like the Gulf Coast but we get enough that it will be saturated every few months.

Do I need to plan on buying a cover if I install a carpeted deck?

You should plan on a cover for any boat you have that has any sort of finish on it or decking with carpet.  You're not only protecting it from rain but also, bird doo doo, bugs, UV rays from the sun, dirt/sand/dust blowing around, small hail, snow/sleet/ice (in some parts of the country).  All of that plays havoc on fiberglass and or carpeting/wood decking.

BTW,  you're less likely to draw interest from prying eyes if the thing is covered vs a fully exposed boat.  Stuff like TM's and anything else left in compartments are a little more protected.

Buy a quality cover to keep the elements from ruining your boat.

covers help. After the rain your boat and equipment are nice and dry.  I got one from Wal mart and its been on there almost a year. no leaks and looks like new.

Do you have a model number on that cover?

Thanks!
