DMV WALLEYE

Featured Replies

Looking for some help on getting my first walleye ever, anyone have any suggestions in the DMV area?  Thanks

Supposed to be some in Brittle and Orange, but in three trips to each, I never saw one.   I generally get my fix most years in Ontario or Wisconsin, but if I was hankering for some eyes right now, from what I've heard and read, I'd head for New River, Claytor or Deep Creek.   Seems I heard they tried to stock Occoquan years ago, but they didn't take.

Id go Upper Potomac below one of the dams. You may not catch huge, but theyre there.

The Upper Potomac has some, but they aren't universally distributed so you need to be in the right sections (I don't really know which sections are the right ones either).  Conowingo/Susky has some, I usually catch a couple each year up there while bass fishing.

If you want a real shot at catching them, Deep Creek is the best place...It's a great walleye lake.  I don't fish for them, but I catch a lot while bass fishing up there.

several hours south you can go to Lake Gaston on the VA/NC border. Its supposedly a lake thats got some good walleye in there, that no one either really knows about or fishes for down there. VA stocks them.

Go to deep creek and fish a jerkbait like you are bass fishing. Don't use anything too expensive, lots of pike and pickerel!

Susquehanna river, conowingo dam
