Trying to decide between a 7’0 M/M and MH/M action crankbait rod. I already have a Tour KVD 7’4 MH/M, which I really like, but want to try and expand on my crankbait equipment. Is there any input on the thought process between a medium moderate action and medium heavy moderate action?

I'll attempt a start to replies :

 

A M/M should be considered for square bill 1.0 / 1.5 sizes and 1/4th oz 1/2 oz. lipless cranks  in mostly open water with little to no grass .

 

The MH/M should be considered for square bill 2.5 size and up square bills and 3/4th oz. lipless cranks  in mostly open water OR for 1/2 oz. and 3/4th oz. lipless cranks when ripping them through grass .

 

*I welcome others to offer suggestions - I believe this is a good "which rod" starting point for square bill and lipless cranks.

Size and depth of bait being thrown. I think if one does a lot of cranking, one needs both. 

MHM is needed for the bigger baits 5/8 through 1 oz. 

Action appears to be the same on both rods.  Power rating is different.

If you already have a MH, then I say definitely get a medium for those lighter crank baits.  After struggling to toss 1.5 accurately with an over powered rod (just sharing my experience), dropping down to a medium is a dream.  The rod does all the work for you and it is noticeable 

I have shimano and dobyns rods...but the 1 different is a St Croix Premier Casting 7' Medium for crankbaits mainly 1.5's and love it but that's me...so many different rods to pick from and the stores around here only have limited selection to pick from hate to buy a rod online I don't want or like...a pain to return
